Will it work with my phone?

Yes if it is an iPhone or iPad (iOS 14.3 or later). It lives in the Find My app you already have, in the Items tab. It does not work with Android.

Will it alert whoever has my car?

It can. Like every Find My tag, the AirTag included, it is built to warn a person when an unknown tag travels with them. That alert is Apple's built-in safeguard against anyone using a tag to track a person, which is a crime in many places. Mapwise is for your car, keys, bags and dog.

Why the car still has no dot

At $29 a tag, the car goes without

Your keys are on Find My. Maybe a bag. The car, the most expensive thing you own, sits in the work lot all day and on the street all night with no dot on your map.

You didn't forget it. You did the math. The car, the keys, the bag and the dog's collar come to $116 in AirTags, so one thing got the tag and the rest went without.

The other road was a GPS tracker for the car. The tracker was cheap. The subscription under the price was not: a bill every month for as long as you want to see your own car.

Neither one charges you for the finding. One rents you a cell connection every month, the other charges for the logo. The finding is done by the iPhones walking past your car, and that part costs nothing.
Why this one

One on everything you own

The same map as the AirTag, at a price that lets you tag all of it, car first.

Four tags for $39.96, not $116

One AirTag is $29. One Mapwise is $9.99. So the car gets one, the keys get one, the bag gets one and the dog's collar gets one for $39.96, where the same four AirTags come to $116.

No rationing. No choosing which of your things you're willing to lose.

Tucks out of sight in the car

Clear and 7 grams, it slips into the seat-back pocket, under the floor mat or behind the visor. The car sits in the lot all day, and you check the map instead of the window.

Keep it where a passing phone can still reach it: inside the cabin or the glove box, not sealed in metal.

On your map in about 24 seconds

Hold it near your iPhone, tap Connect, give it a name. It shows up in the Items tab of Find My, right next to your keys.

No extra app to download. It's already on the Find My app on your iPhone.

Fits the keys, the bag and the collar

Each tag sits in a silicone holder with a loop, so it hangs from your keys, a bag strap or the dog's collar.

Rated IP67, so rain, a puddle or a muddy yard won't stop it.

How it finds your car

Every passing iPhone does the finding

It's simpler than it sounds. A GPS tracker with a subscription carries its own little phone, and you pay its bill every month. This tag carries no phone at all.

  1. It sends out a Bluetooth signalThe same kind of short signal an AirTag sends. No SIM card, no data of its own, nothing to pay for.
  2. Any iPhone nearby passes it onHundreds of millions of iPhones, iPads and Macs make up Apple's Find My network. When one passes your car, it relays the tag's location, encrypted and anonymous.
  3. You see it in Find MyOpen the Find My app you already have, tap Items, and the car's latest location is there next to your keys. Within 200 feet, tap Play Sound to hear it.
Think of a message in a bottle in a sea full of mail carriers. Every iPhone that walks past picks the bottle up and delivers it home to you, free. That is why there is no monthly fee.

[I had an AirTag on my keys and nothing on the car because I wasn't paying $29 four times. Got four of these for less than two AirTags cost, and now the car, both sets of keys and my backpack are in the Items tab together. The car shows up every time I check it from my desk at work.]

Questions iPhone owners ask first

I tried a cheap tag before and it stopped working. Why is this one different?

It works with Apple Find My and carries an Apple MFi-certified chip, so it shows up in the Items tab exactly like an AirTag, on the same network. Find My tells you when the battery is getting low, so it never dies quietly. And if it ever stops showing up on your map, you have 90 days to send it back for a full refund.

Will it alert whoever is driving my car?

It can, and we'd rather tell you straight. Like every Find My tag, the AirTag included, it is built to warn a person when an unknown tag travels with them for a while: their iPhone, and many Android phones, can show an alert, and a tag away from its owner can play a sound when it's moved. That alert is Apple's built-in safeguard against anyone using a tag to track a person, which is a crime in many places. Mapwise is for your car, keys, bags and dog, never for tracking a person.

Many owners count on that alert: if someone takes the car, they learn it is tracked and tend to ditch it, and until they find the tag, the map keeps showing you where the car is.

Does it work with Android?

No. It works only with an iPhone or iPad (iOS 14.3 or later) or a Mac, through Apple's Find My app and your Apple ID. If your phone is Android, this tag is not for you.

Is it real GPS? How does it update with no SIM?

There is no SIM and no GPS chip inside, which is exactly why there is no monthly fee. The tag sends a Bluetooth signal, and any iPhone, iPad or Mac that passes it relays its location to your Find My app. It updates wherever iPhones go: parking lots, streets, airports, neighborhoods, anywhere in the world. Parked somewhere nobody passes, it updates when someone does. The location shown is approximate, like an AirTag's.

How long does the battery last?

Up to a year on one CR2032 coin battery, the same kind an AirTag uses. Find My tells you when it's low, and the battery swaps out in seconds.

AirTags aren't that expensive. Why not just buy those?

For one tag, maybe. For everything, the math changes: one AirTag is $29, one Mapwise is $9.99, so the car, the keys, the bag and the collar come to $39.96 instead of $116. What you give up is the AirTag's Precision Finding arrow. For a car you need the map, not an arrow, and within 200 feet Play Sound gives you an 80 to 100 dB beep to walk to.

Where should I put it in the car?

Anywhere inside the cabin that's out of sight: the glove box, the seat-back pocket, under a floor mat, behind the visor, the door pocket. Don't bury it inside metal or deep in the engine bay; a tag buried too deep can't reach a passing phone, and the location stops updating.

Will it stay on my dog's collar?

Yes. Each tag sits in a silicone holder with a loop that slides onto the collar, it weighs 7 grams and it's rated IP67 for rain and puddles. One honest note: it reports when iPhones pass, so it's great for a collar around town and the neighborhood, not a live tracker for a dog running through the woods.

It paired as "Lucid tag". Did I get the right item?

Yes. The box and the pairing screen say Lucid Tag, the device name it registers under in Find My. Name it Car, Keys or Bag during setup, or rename it any time in the Items tab.

How fast does it ship, and what if it doesn't work for me?

Orders are processed in 1 to 2 days and delivered in 5 to 10 days. If it doesn't show up on your map, or you just don't love it, you have 90 days to send it back for a full refund.

[Figured a $9.99 tag would be junk]
[I have AirTags on my keys and bag and figured a $9.99 tag would be junk, because the cheap ones I tried before stopped reporting after a couple of weeks. Bought four anyway since the car had nothing. Paired in Find My in under a minute, sits next to my keys in the Items tab, and the car has shown up every time I've checked it at the work lot.]

[Checked on the car from the gate]
[Left the car in the long-term lot for a week and didn't worry about it once. Opened Find My at the gate coming home and there it was, right where I left it. I tagged the car, the keys and both suitcases for less than two AirTags would have cost, and there's no subscription like the GPS trackers I was looking at.]

[One on the collar, one on the spare keys]
[Put one in the silicone holder on my dog's collar and one on my spare keys. Setup was hold it near the phone, tap Connect, name it. It's so light she doesn't notice it. I know it isn't a live GPS for a dog running in the woods, but around the neighborhood it pops up whenever people walk by with their iPhones.]

[Yes, it can alert someone. Fine by me.]
[I read all the posts about Find My alerting whoever has the tag, and yes, this is a Find My tag too. That's fine with me. It's in my car, not on a person, and if someone ever takes the car I'd rather they know it's tracked and dump it. Meanwhile I can see the car on the map from my desk.]

[Same map as my AirTags for a third of the price]
[Works exactly like my AirTags on the map, which is all I wanted for the car. The only thing missing is the Precision Finding arrow, so in a big parking garage I use Play Sound instead, and it's plenty loud. Low battery shows up in Find My, and the battery is a regular 2032 I can swap myself.]

[Kept two, gave two to my mom]
[Bought four, kept two for my car and my keys, and gave the other two to my mom for her car and her purse. She already had Find My on her iPhone, so there was nothing to download. For $39.96, two cars, a purse and my keys are on the map, where four AirTags would have been $116, and nobody pays a monthly fee.]
